One of the key lessons we have learned over the first few months in Uganda is that you have to expect unforeseen obstacles from time to time. In September, for example, a makeshift bridge on the way to our land collapsed, leaving the pick-up truck we had hired to transport plants stuck in the swamp for three days. The problem was finally solved by using the only tractor for miles around. In the following week, SLAC then built two bridges together with many volunteers from the community, which not only made it easier for us to transport building materials and seedlings, but also enabled the local farmers to transport their produce to the nearest towns. Win-win!
